England Journey
Our recent journey through the UK was truly one for the books—perhaps our most memorable yet. We had the privilege of visiting three of our esteemed members and to step inside some of London’s most renowned and inspiring artist studios and cultural institutions.
But let’s not forget what really makes these trips special: US. It was the spirit of camaraderie, lively conversations, and shared laughter over exquisite meals and drinks that also made this experience so special.
As we look ahead to the next chapter, I hope this April Newsletter brings back a few smiles and vivid memories.
Very warmest regards,
Susanne
A peaceful start in Bath
Our journey began at Paddington Station, filled with the joy of reunion. After a few free Gin & Tonics offered by the charming train attendant, we all arrived in the best of spirits in Bath.
The tranquil beauty of our hotel, the Royal Crescent offered the perfect welcome, setting a serene tone for the vibrant days ahead.
After our Michelin star meal, offered by our dear friend Antonio, we had a good night of sleep to attack the early visit the next day. We visited the Roman Baths and the Abbey reminding us why Bath, alongside Venice, holds the rare distinction of being designated a UNESCO World Heritage city in its entirety—a testament to its rich history and enduring charm.
Visiting our friends Lady Deirdre and Sir James Dyson
Our group was just in time for one of the most anticipated highlights of our journey: a visit to the Dodington Estate, home to Deirdre and James Dyson.
It is difficult to say what left the strongest impression—their extraordinary art collection of Hockneys, the forest of Takis’ light sculptures, the exceptional sculpture park created by Deirdre, the grandeur of the estate itself, or the generosity and insights of our hosts.
We were able to enjoy a great lunch prepared by Caroline, Deirdre’s fabulous chef, accompanied by the music of Rammellzee.
It was a truly memorable experience, and we are deeply grateful to Deirdre and James for sharing it with us so wholeheartedly.
The Dyson institute of Engineering and Technology
Before making our way back to London, Sir James offered us a fascinating interlude into the world of innovation with a visit to the Dyson Institute of Engineering and Technology where we met with his students. We were struck by their energy and passion and the founder’s personal relationship with all of them. It was a thought-provoking and inspiring visit— an enriching glimpse into a pioneering model of higher education.
Antony Gormley Studio visit
What better way to begin our London visits than with a private tour of Sir Antony Gormley’s studio? Having encountered his iconic works across the globe, it felt only fitting to explore the very place where they come to life. We learned how those sculptures were made and had a thorough explanation from his team and studio director.
Sir Antony Gormley just opened a show at the Whitecube gallery two days before and some of us managed to get a glimpse of his most precious works from the early 70’s.
Lunch and visit with Emily Kraus, Harminder Judge & Jamiu Agboke
Our next stop took us to the Limehouse area in East London, where, tucked away in a quiet industrial zone, we discovered the studios of three remarkable young artists. We had the pleasure of visiting the studios of Emily Kraus, Harminder Judge and Jamiu Agboke, who personally guided us through their distinct and compelling artistic practices.
To our delight, the visit concluded with an unexpected culinary treat: a hidden gem of Italian cuisine nestled in the heart of a garment factory offered by The Sunday Painters gallery.
Visit of the Barbican
To finish this dense first day of visits in London, we headed for the Barbican where we were welcomed by Shanay Jhaveri, the newly appointed Head of Visual Arts and Wells Fray-Smith, the curator of the exceptional Noah Davis exhibition that we toured altogether.

A special evening with Vanisha Mittal and Ivor Braka
After freshening up and changing into our evening attire, we were warmly welcomed by our International Board member, Vanisha Mittal. Thanks to her kind invitation—and the attentive hospitality of her team—we enjoyed an intimate evening of Dom Pérignon, canapés and conversations in the elegant setting of her home. The night was made all the more special by the chance to explore her impressive art collection spaning from Picasso to Rashid Johnson.
Finally, we finished the day within the most extraordinary setting – Ivor Braka’s newly renovated church-alike home. Ivor’s most pristine English artist collection and eccentric interior created the best setting for a very amusing and pleasant evening. We were indulged by Ivor’s chefs and their fabulous cooking. Ivor gave us an extensive tour of his artworks starting with two major paintings by Francis Bacon, two wonderful examples of Frank Auerbach, Bridgit Riley at her best, and many more. His furniture collection was as rich as his brilliant paintings
Tracey Emin at home
Our last day started with my personal highlight; the home of Tracey Emin. Accompanied by Harry Weller, Creative Director of her studio, we had the chance to explore a whole creative universe built inside her gorgeous house on Fitzroy Square. We were so privileged to learn about Tracey’s private life that was documented by her paintings and sketches tucked away in her studio and hanging on the walls of her home. I think we visited every corner of her private universe.
Workshop & studio visit with Oliver Beer
In another very intimate setting, Oliver Beer took us to his studio and workshop near Waterloo where he explained and demonstrated his unique artistic practice. Unfortunately for those not present, we were not allowed to record anything. After this amazing performance, Oliver invited us into his personal living area where we experienced a delicious and boozy lunch organized by Sissi Fabulous Food.

Visit at the ICA
For our second institutional visit, we headed for the ICA where the Director, Bengi Unsal and the Head of Artistic Program, Steven Cairns, met our group for an insightful tour of this groundbreaking art center. We had the chance to see the first solo presentation in the UK by Amsterdam-based artist Nora Turato.
Ending in beauty with the Ralph Segreti collection
Last but not least, we had the pleasure of visiting the penthouse of our newest board member, Ralph Segreti, and his husband, Richard Follows. It’s been such a pleasure to officially welcome Ralph to the group, and to see him connect so naturally with everyone. Their warm hospitality made for the perfect closing moment—cozy, convivial, and surrounded by a bold and forward-thinking art collection with works by their favorite artists, Theaster Gates, Rashid Johnson, Lauren Halsey, Jennie C. Jones and many others.
My Conclusion
How much fun this was !
Thank you very much to all of our friends that made it to England and thank you to our generous hosts. I hope that we will see our other International Board members soon again in Basel in June, or in Paris in October. We are working on our next adventures and will keep you all posted.
Warmest regards,
Susanne
